Kitchen Steward Job Description
Job Brief:
As a Kitchen Steward, you will play a vital role in maintaining a smooth kitchen operation. Your responsibilities will include ensuring cleanliness, organization, and offering support to the kitchen staff. You will be expected to balance various tasks efficiently and communicate effectively with the team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen area, including washing dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Clean and sanitize all food preparation and storage areas regularly to ensure a safe and hygienic working environment.
- Assist with the organization and storage of food supplies, ensuring proper rotation and labeling.
- Help in the receiving and inspection of deliveries, verifying quantities and quality of items.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely and efficient food production.
- Support chefs and cooks in food preparation, such as peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
- Monitor and report any maintenance or repair needs for kitchen equipment and fixtures.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including proper dress code and behavior standards.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Requirements and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
- Knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic math skills for measurement and recipe conversions.
- Physical stamina, as the role may require standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
