The chart of accounts, customer and vendor records, invoices and bills, payments and receipts, bank accounts and reconciliation, tax on transactions, and the ledgers and standard financial statements produced from all of it. It is the record of what the business has earned, spent, owes and is owed.
Because they read from it. Double Entry produces its statements from the accounting entries, Budget Planner allocates against the chart of accounts and syncs spending from journal entries, and Financial Goal tracks progress from journal entries and linked bank accounts. Without Accounting enabled, there is nothing for them to read.
Accounting creates and holds the records — accounts, customers, vendors, invoices, bills, payments and bank movements. Double Entry is a separate add-on that reports over those records, producing the ledger summary, trial balance, balance sheet, profit and loss statement, period comparisons and year-end close. One maintains the data, the other interprets it.
Manual double-entry postings are handled by the Journal Entry add-on, which is where accruals, adjustments and corrections are entered with their own debit and credit lines. Those entries post to the ledgers that Accounting maintains and that Double Entry reports from.
